Annual Elections and Officer Slate Meeting

The Club is holding our first quarter business meeting and voting on the election slate for 2018 club officers on January 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.  Your voice matters so come to the event to vote and participate in discussions about what you as a club member want out of the club.   The meeting location is Our Club Space at the Men’s Club Building.

Update to Important Bylaw Vote Meeting – Nov 16

Our last step in the journey to Chartered Club status is a General Meeting of the Club to vote for approving the Club Bylaws.  

37 people attended our Bylaw Approval meeting on the 16th and the vote was unanimous to accept the bylaws as written.  All we need are final Recreation Center signatures and we will be the newest Chartered Club in Sun City West.

Have Thanksgiving Dinner With Family – November Meeting/Event


Your Club has rented the Quail Room in the Sun City West Foundation Bldg to host a wonderful, loving Thanksgiving Dinner amongst friends.
This will be a fully catered meal by Birt’s Bistro, which has a gourmet chef.  
The menu features turkey, whipped buttermilk potatoes, glazed sweet potatoes, bread stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole, rolls and butter, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.
There is a vegetarian option, but you must let us know when you purchase your meal ticket if you want the VEGETARIAN OPTION.
The Date is Thursday, November 23, 2017 – Happy Thanksgiving!
Time to be finalized, but probably 2:30 or 3:00pm
Cost is $22.00 for Club members and $25.00 for guests
Maximum: 48 people.  Minimum to hold dinner: 20 people (NOTE DEADLINE DATE ABOVE)

Cruise Lake Pleasant – October Monthly Meeting


Enjoy a 90-minute scenic cruise on beautiful Lake Pleasant. Narration of the lake’s history and wildlife is provided. Cruisers will learn about Lake Pleasant, The Agua Fria River, The HoHoKom Tribe, The Old Waddell Dam, The New Waddell Dam, area wildlife and recreational activities at Lake Pleasant. You may see wild burro, deer, javalina, coyote, foxes, bald eagles, or other bird species. Lake Pleasant is a man-made Lake. The reservoir is 10,000 acres and boasts 116 miles of shoreline. The Agua Fria River features extensive canyon walls and is accessible only at certain times during the year. Come experience our oasis in the desert on this cruise. Drink specials, snacks and a full bar available (cash only).

Tickets for the special Thursday cruises are $16.00 for people 60 years of age or older.   For the under-60s, the price is $22.00.  All tickets can be purchased on site at the marina.

For Carpooling:  Begin gathering at the staging area in the parking lot off either R. H. Johnson Blvd or Meeker Blvd. between the Library and the Bowling Alley (parking area #14) for sign in and arranging carpools. Be there at 10:45 as we will be leaving at 11:00 SHARP!

If you are driving on your own:

Lake Pleasant Cruises is located at Pleasant Harbor Marina in Peoria, Arizona. Please note we are NOT located at Scorpion Bay Marina. We are at the marina at the southeast corner of Lake Pleasant, located off Carefree Highway (74). Turn at 87th Avenue and follow signs to Pleasant Harbor Marina. Address: 8708 W. Harbor Blvd. Peoria, AZ 85383.

Important Information from the Cruise company:

Cash only on board. No outside food or beverages allowed. Boarding begins 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Pleasant Harbor Marina charges a $6.00 per vehicle ($2.00 per person on chartered buses) entry fee. No free park entry on cruises.  We recommend you arrive early if you plan to utilize the golf cart shuttles. Shuttles run 24/7 and are available to anyone visiting Pleasant Harbor.  Tipping your shuttle driver is recommended. Our cruises may be canceled by the Captain if extreme weather conditions are present. We do not cancel for rain.

September Lunch and Music at Birt’s Bistro – September Monthly Meeting

The Good Times Committee says “Join us for a fun lunch at Birt’s Bistro in Surprise. ”  Birt’s chef and team have created a menu featuring fresh salads, sandwiches and wraps and tempting Chef Features.   There is also musical entertainment from noon-1:00 pm.

Birt’s Bistro is a restaurant on Benevilla’s main campus in Surprise, whose social enterprise model helps to support the charitable work that Benevilla does in our community.  Every purchase at Birt’s helps to fund Benevilla programs and services, providing care and support for older adults, disabled adults, children, and the families who care for them. 

This event is limited to 25 attendees.  Because this location has limited seating and no-shows take spots away from other people who want to attend, a $5.00 seat reservation will be necessary to hold your spot.   Your $5.00 will be refunded to you at the event.  For no-shows to the event, the $5.00 reservation will not be refunded.  

To reserve your spot:

  • Bring your $5.00 to the August 21st gathering at the RHJohnson Activity Center or
  • Mail a check made out to SCWLGBT to Allen Hughes, 19006 N 143rd Avenue, SCW, 85375 or
  • Call Allen at 757 810 2017 to arrange a time to drop off your reservation.

This is a limited-seating event, so you can only attend if we receive your $5.00 hold ahead of the event.  Please reserve your spot early. Because Birt’s is a charitable organization, they have requested each attendee purchase a meal item off the menu – please do not just order coffee or a beverage.

Get Ready for August Fun! – August Monthly Meeting

It’s summer.  It’s hot.  You’re bored.  Here’s the solution:  Join your LGBT Club for a fun evening at the RH Johnson Activity Center for a night of regular lane bowling, or shoot some pool or just get together and socialize.   

Your Good Times Committee has reserved space for us to do these activities.  We need a minimum of 20 people to RSVP to hold the reservation.   Please RSVP no later than Saturday, August 19th to Cindy O.  through email at mykids26@aol.com  or by phone at 623.693.7844.  Please do not RSVP to Suzanne or the scwlgbt email for this event.

Beer, wine and soft drinks are available for purchase.

Costs are:

  • Lane Bowling:  $2.50 per game (includes shoe rental)
  • Pool/Billiards:  Free – no extra charge

Update:  8/19/17 – Wii Bowling will not be available at this event due to ceiling renovations in the Shuffleboard Room.
